How It Started

We didn't start with fancy plans or corporate structures. A few neighbors in Alytus noticed something: people wanted to grow their own food, but didn't know where to start. Some had backyards, others had just a small patch of space. We're talking about folks who'd never planted a seed before, alongside experienced gardeners who had knowledge to share.

Mariaangeleshernandez UAB began in 2019 when we realized there wasn't a central place for this knowledge. No resources specifically about growing vegetables in our climate, no community plots organized nearby, no one explaining how to build a raised bed properly. So we started creating those resources ourselves.

Since then, we've helped over 150 households set up their first vegetable gardens. Some grew tomatoes in containers on balconies. Others built elaborate raised bed systems in their yards. But they all started with the same question: "How do we actually do this?"

Our Philosophy

How We Work

Mariaangeleshernandez UAB isn't here to complicate gardening. We're focused on making it practical, accessible, and rewarding for everyone.

Real Solutions

We don't sell complicated systems. We share what actually works in Alytus's climate and soil conditions — tested by real gardeners.

Community First

Growing together beats growing alone. We connect gardeners, share tools, trade seedlings, and solve problems as a group.

Clear Learning

Step-by-step guides without jargon. From soil prep to harvest, you'll understand exactly what to do and why it matters.

Sustainable Growth

We emphasize organic methods, composting, and soil health. Healthier gardens that last seasons, not just one summer.

These aren't just numbers. They represent neighbors who've gone from "I can't grow anything" to harvesting their own vegetables. Community plots where people who didn't know each other six months ago are now sharing harvests and garden advice. Families teaching kids where food actually comes from.

Where We're Headed

We're not stopping here. The conversations we're having with gardeners in Alytus show us there's so much more to do. More people want to start growing, more spaces need community organization, and more knowledge needs to be shared.

This year, we're expanding to five new community plot locations. We're creating specialized guides for specific crops that do well in our region. And we're building partnerships with local schools so kids can learn gardening alongside their families.

Mariaangeleshernandez UAB's goal is simple: make it normal for people in Alytus to grow at least some of their own food. Not as a trendy hobby, but as something practical and rewarding that connects us to our land and each other.
